The aim of the study is to define a methodology for determining the degree of achieved sustainable energy and economic development in the EU. Changes in the method of determining the level of economic development are of concern to the scientific community and the problem to be solved at the level of the European Commission. EU countries provide that, within the implementation of the EU STRATEGY 2020, defining the necessary methodology and gradually move to a new way of determining the parameters of GDP and related development. The traditional way of determining GDP does not cover damages caused by the natural and social wealth as a result of activities performed during the creation of GDP. This paper presents the suggested changes should be made in the existing method of determining the level of sustainable development in the field to achieve a satisfactory relationship between economy, ecology and energy. The study presents a modified method of determining economic growth rates and charges incurred through the economic progress. The survey was conducted using energy as an indicator intensively designated by the EU as a monitoring tool, the proposed modifications.en
