Productivity of Serbian wheat genotypes grown in ecological agricultural system

AB  - Due to strict rules in ecological plant production, especially in
case of fertilization and plants protection, productivity i. e. yield could be
limited. Choosing the appropriate genotypes, modest requirements to the inputs
and adapted to the conditions of ecological cultivation is a particularly
important point and one of the prerequisites for economical, profitable and
stable production, without big risks and losses. The aim of this paper was to
estimate adaptability of wheat genotypes to ecological growing conditions
according to grain yield. The trial was carried out in Center for Small Grains,
Kragujevac, Serbia. 23 Serbian wheat genotypes were included. There were
applied two fertilization variants (manure and NPK fertilizers) and control
one, too. Mainly, NPK fertilizers caused statistically significant differences in
grain yield. At the same time, manure influenced the increase of grain yield
compared to the control variant. The genotypes that achieved similar yields,
without significant differences in relation to applied fertilizers, were: Morava,
Lepenica, Studenica, KG 100, Lazarica, Pobeda, Evropa 90, Perla, Pesma.
Vizija was the more yielding in manure than in NPK variant. Those varieties
are interested for practical cultivation in ecological agriculture and could be
significant material in wheat breeding in order to obtain new varieties adapted
to the ecological system of cultivation and sustainable agriculture.

AB  - Maize is one of the most important cereal crops. Besides its use as food
and feed, maize is also an energy crop. In order to ensure sufficient quantities of
maize, the main goal of every breeding program is to develop new, better hybrids.
Correlation and path coefficient analysis can be used for indirect selection of highyielding
hybrids. In light of that, one of the objectives of this paper was to determine
relationship between grain yield and morphological traits, for 8 inbred lines and their
hybrids, Strong genetic and phenotypic correlations were found between grain yield
and other studied traits, except between grain yield, on one side, and kernel row
number, where we found medium phenotypic correlations, Between morphological
traits of plant and ear the highest values of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of
correlations were found between ear length and kernel number per row. Also, the
objective of this research was to find the direct and indirect effects of morphological
traits on grain yield. Desirable, high significant influence on grain yield in path
coefficient analysis, was found for almost all studied traits. Ear height was the only
trait that had negative direct genetic and phenotypic influence.

AB  - Stvaranje novih, prinosnijih hibrida osnovni je cilj svakog oplemenjivačkog programa. Prinos je veoma kompleksno svojstvo i, kako
bi se prilikom oplemenjivanja izabrala najpogodnija metoda, neophodno je
pažnju posvetiti i međuzavisnosti prinosa zrna i komponenti prinosa zrna.
Iz tog razloga, cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se ustanovi međuzavisnost
prinosa i komponenti prinosa (dužina klipa, broj redova zrna na klipu, broj
zrna u redu i masa 100 zrna), kao i između prinosa i komponenti prinosa, sa jedne strane i sadržaja ulja u zrnu, sa druge strane. U istraživanju je
korišćeno 7 inbred linija i njihovo potomstvo ukrštanja. Ogled je postavljen po slučajnom blok sistemu, sa tri ponavljanja. Najjača međuzavisnost
ustanovljena je između prinosa zrna i broja zrna u redu, a kod ostalih
proučavanih osobina, između dužine klipa i broja zrna u redu. Sadžaj ulja
u zrnu bio je u negativnoj korelaciji sa svim proučavanim osobinama,
izuzev sa brojem redova zrna na klipu.

AB  - Koncept odrzivog razycoja je uspostavljen poslednjih decenija
20. veka, sa ciljem da se primenjuje u svim privrednim delatnostima, ukljucujuci
i poljoprivredu. Odriiva poljoprivreda je, imajuci u vidu znaéaj
ove delatnoisti, njena dostignuéa, ali i rizike u odnosu na Zivotnu sredinu
i zdravstvenu sigurnost potrogaéa, jedan od preduslova odrzivog razvoja.
Realizacija ovog koncepta podrazumeva izmene u sprovodenju odredenih
agrotehnickih mera i procedura, posebno dubrenja, zastite biljaka, obrade
zemljista i setvene strukture. Vaznu ulogu u odrzivim poljoprivrednim
sistemima imaju alternativne biline vrste, kojima pripada i heljda (Fagopyrum
esculentum Moench.). Njen znaéaj proizilazi iz njenih agroteh nickih prednosti, nutritivnih i lekovitih svojstava. Svetska proizvodnja heljde
je, perioditno, oscilirala, da bi danas pokazivala trend rasta. Najveci
deo svetske proizvodnje heljde ostvaruje se u Evropi i Aziji (93.67 %). Najveci
izvoznik je, u 2021., bila Rusija (41% ukupnog svetskog izvoza), dok
su najveci uvoznici bili Japan i Kina. Izvozna cena je u toj godini belezila
rast od 24% u odnosu na prethodnu, a sliéan trend je pokazivala i uvozna
cena. Prepreke za masovnije gajenje heljde predstavijaju nizak prinos zrna
i te’ko¢e i gubici tokom Zetve. Kombinovanje modernih i klasiénih metoda
u oplemenjivanju i selekciji heljde bi moglo da doprinese prevazilazenju
okolnosti koje limitiraju njenu proizvodnju.

Organska poljoprivreda od prošlosti dosadašnjosti

AB  - Polovinom 20. veka doilo je do inteziviranja poljoprivredne pro- izvodnje. Pored toga Sto je industralizacija poljoprivrede dovele do ostva- rivanja veceg prinosa i profita, konvencionalna poljoprivreda imala je Citav niz negativnih posledica po ljudsko zdravlje, zivotnu sredinu i biodiverzi- tet. Danas se konvencionalna poljoprivreda smatra jednim od najzna¢ajni- jih zagadivaca zivotne sredine. Moguénost prevazilazenja ovog problema pronadena je u razvijanju odrzivih sistema poljoprivredne proizvodnije, a organska poljoprivreda je jedan od vidova odrzive poljoprivrede. Cilj ovog rada je da se prikaZe istorijski razvoj organske poljoprivrede kao o
sistema poljoprivrede, kao i stanje u organskoj poljoprivredi danas +
spektiva njenog razvoja. Analiti¢ari razvoj organske poljoprivrede
tri faze: organic 1.0, 2.01 3.0. Organic 1.0 je faza pojave pionira koji su
zali na negativne posledice konvencionalne poljoprivrede. Period ox
2.0 karakteriSe se razvojem zakonske regulative i Sirenjem organske
privrede u svetu, a organic 3.0 definiSe buducnost organske poljopris
kao i izazove sa kojima se organska proizvodnja suoéavala i sa koji
se suoéavati, kao i moguénosti njihovog prevazilazenja. Danas se or:
proizvodnja odvija na skoro 76,5 miliona ha u 191 zemalja sveta. Ko
na zakonska regulativa implementirana je u 74 drZava, a zarada od p
organskih proizvoda dostigla je u 2021. godini 124,8 milijardi dolare.

abstract = "Polovinom 20. veka doilo je do inteziviranja poljoprivredne pro- izvodnje. Pored toga Sto je industralizacija poljoprivrede dovele do ostva- rivanja veceg prinosa i profita, konvencionalna poljoprivreda imala je Citav niz negativnih posledica po ljudsko zdravlje, zivotnu sredinu i biodiverzi- tet. Danas se konvencionalna poljoprivreda smatra jednim od najzna¢ajni- jih zagadivaca zivotne sredine. Moguénost prevazilazenja ovog problema pronadena je u razvijanju odrzivih sistema poljoprivredne proizvodnije, a organska poljoprivreda je jedan od vidova odrzive poljoprivrede. Cilj ovog rada je da se prikaZe istorijski razvoj organske poljoprivrede kao o
sistema poljoprivrede, kao i stanje u organskoj poljoprivredi danas +
spektiva njenog razvoja. Analiti¢ari razvoj organske poljoprivrede
tri faze: organic 1.0, 2.01 3.0. Organic 1.0 je faza pojave pionira koji su
zali na negativne posledice konvencionalne poljoprivrede. Period ox
2.0 karakteriSe se razvojem zakonske regulative i Sirenjem organske
privrede u svetu, a organic 3.0 definiSe buducnost organske poljopris
kao i izazove sa kojima se organska proizvodnja suoéavala i sa koji
se suoéavati, kao i moguénosti njihovog prevazilazenja. Danas se or:
proizvodnja odvija na skoro 76,5 miliona ha u 191 zemalja sveta. Ko
na zakonska regulativa implementirana je u 74 drZava, a zarada od p
organskih proizvoda dostigla je u 2021. godini 124,8 milijardi dolare.",

AB  - Fruits of Sorbus torminalis L. Crantz. (Wild service tree) have been traditionally used, fresh or dried, for
the production of preserves such as jam, jelly, syrup, compote or tea. Furtheremore, these fruits are well
known worldwide as a traditional remedy for treating respiratory tract infections, as traditional astringent,
diarrheic and antidiabetic agents. As a part of broad research, the aim of this study was to define phenolic
profile as well as antioxidant activity of water and methanolic extracts of dried fruits. The presence and
content of 44 plant phenolics and quinic acid was determined using LC-MS/MS technique. In order to
examine antioxidant potency, few in vitro assays were carried out: DPPH. (diphenylpicrylhydrazyl), HO»
(hydroxyl radical), and reducing power (FRAP) assay. In addition, total phenolic and flavonoid contents were
determined spectrophotometrically. Among examined compounds, quinic acid (precursor of phenolics) was
the most dominant among both samples. Moreover, protocatechuic an ferulic acids were the most abundant
amongst phenolics acids. Furthermore, analysis of selected flavonoids showed notable content of
amentoflavone as well as quercetin glycosides (quercetin-3-O-glucoside and hyperoside). In applied
antioxidant tests, methanolic extract showed the highest antiradical activity. Compared to propyl galate, a
well known synthetic antioxidant, both extracts exhibited a potent antioxidant activity. Total phenolic content
was significant, expecially in methanolic extract, while total phenolic content was low in both extracts.
Obtained results indicates a significant antioxidant potential of S. torminalis fruits and higly support
traditional use of this species in diet, but also points to its use as a functional food.

AB  - The important role of buckwheat in moder human diet and contemporary,
sustainable agriculture derives from its chemical composition of grain and
modest growing requirements. Consequently, there is an increasing trend of areas
under buckwheat with a rate of 22.46% per year. Buckwheat arouses great
interest as essential ingredient for functional foods because of its health benefits.
Its grain is one of the best sources of high quality protein in the plant kingdom.
Buckwheat is very sensitive to the lack of moisture, especially during the first
development phases, in period of rooting, during flowering and yielding period.
So, the aim of investigation was to estimate the optimal seed rate of buckwheat
to achieve the productive, economic and other objectives, especially important
for ecological agriculture, in conditions of stubble sowing and irrigation. The
investigation included 12 genotypes and three sowing density (80, 120 and 160
grains m-2
).
The highest average grain yield is obtained in density of 160 grains per m2
, then in density of 120 grains per m-2
, but the lowest in 80 grains per m-2
density. Difference in grain yield between 160 grains per m-2
 and 120 grains per
m-2
 density variants is a slight, only 80 kg or 3.49% that means both sowing
density variant could be applied successfully in buckwheat planting technology,
but sowing density of 120 grains per m-2
 has priority because of production

AB  - Uprkos nepoželjnim efektima po životnu sredinu, upotreba đubriva u poljoprivredi, posebno azotnih, obavezan je preduslov za dobijanje dovoljnih količina hrane za ljudsku i stočnu ishranu. Stoga je izazov, u nastupajućim decenijama kada se očekuje povećanje ljudske populacije, razviti visoko-produktivne i efikasne poljoprivredne sisteme, a istovremeno doprineti očuvanju i zaštiti ekosistema. U ostvarenju tog cilja od značajne pomoći može da bude multidisciplinarni pristup oplemenjivanju pšenice, kao najvažnije hlebne vrste, kao i uključivanje fizioloških pokazatelja efikasnosti ishrane biljaka azotom u taj proces. Prema tome, u ovom radu se analizira fiziološka efikasnost azota (FEN), njegova heritabilnost i varijabilnost, povezanost sa prinosom zrna, a zatim se sa aspekta ovog indikatora ocenjuju genotipovi ozime pšenice selekcionisani u Srbiji. Najbolje vrednosti FEN zabeležene su kod genotipova KG 165/2 i Lazarica. Na osnovu ovih rezultata izdvojeni genotipovi se mogu smatrati nosiocima poželjnih osobina, sa aspekta teorije oplemenjivanja pšenice, unapređenja proizvodne efikasnosti, zaštite životne sredine i razvoja ekološke poljoprivrede. Za definisanje oplemenjivačkih programa i dobijanje pouzdanih rezultata neophodno je istraživanje ostalih fizioloških parametara, njihovih međusobnih korelacionih veza i korelacionih veza sa prinosom i kvalitetom zrna pšenice.
AB  - Inadequate amounts of fertilizers, especially nitrogen, have negative effects on ecosystems and food safety. On the other side, fertilizing, with an improvement in cropping systems, mainly in developed countries, has provided a food supply sufficient for both animal and human consumption. Therefore, with the increasing world population, the main task for the following decades is to develop highly productive agriculture, whilst at the same time preserving the quality of the environment. A multidisciplinary approach to winter wheat breeding and the inclusion of physiological indicators of nitrogen nutrition efficiency in this process could be helpful in reaching this goal. This study deals with the physiological efficiency of nitrogen as one of the physiological indicators, its relation with grain yield, heritability and variance and evaluation of Serbian winter wheat genotypes according to this indicator. The highest values of the physiological efficiency of nitrogen were registered at KG 165/2 and Lazarica. These genotypes, selected as superior in terms of this indicator, could be considered as desirable in wheat breeding theory, for improvement of production efficiency, environmental protection and development of ecological agriculture. However, further investigations of other physiological parameters, their correlations and correlations with yield and grain quality of wheat are necessary to define breeding programs and to obtain reliable results in this area.

Genetic analysis of variability and inheritance of nitrogen harvest index in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

 and F2
 generations were produced in diallel crosses (without reciprocals) of five genetically divergent
wheat cultivars (Zitnica, Jugoslavija, Zelengora, NS Rana 2 and Nizija). The variability, mode of inheritance, gene effect, combining ability of parent cultivars and F1
 and F2
 hybrids for NHI were studied. The different mode of inheritance: partial dominance, dominance and overdominance for analyzed traits were established, with prevalence of overdominance, taking into
account all crossing combinations. On the base of genetic components of variance analysis was estimated that non-additive
gene action has higher impact than additive in the inheritance of NHI, with higher frequency of dominant alleles and positive
interaction additive x dominant genetic effects. The average degree of dominance was positive and indicates overdominance
as prevailing inheritance mode, considering all crossing combinations. Dominance i.e. overdominance as inheritance mode
was recorded by regression analysis. The parents were divergent in terms of order of dominant and recessive alleles. The interalleles interaction was registered, too. Analysis of combining ability showed high significance of specific combining abilities
in both of generations, while general combining abilities were significant only in F2 generation, what confirm higher proportion of non – additivegenetic variance. The relation genetic combining abilities/specific combining abilities was less than 1.
The best general combiner for NHI in both F1
 and F2
 generation was Zitnica cultivar. The highest values of specific combining abilities were obtained in combinations Zelengora x Nizija and Zitnica x NS Rana 2. The emphasized cultivars could be
recommended for wheat breeding programes as source of desirable properties.

 and F2
 generations were produced in diallel crosses (without reciprocals) of five genetically divergent
wheat cultivars (Zitnica, Jugoslavija, Zelengora, NS Rana 2 and Nizija). The variability, mode of inheritance, gene effect, combining ability of parent cultivars and F1
 and F2
 hybrids for NHI were studied. The different mode of inheritance: partial dominance, dominance and overdominance for analyzed traits were established, with prevalence of overdominance, taking into
account all crossing combinations. On the base of genetic components of variance analysis was estimated that non-additive
gene action has higher impact than additive in the inheritance of NHI, with higher frequency of dominant alleles and positive
interaction additive x dominant genetic effects. The average degree of dominance was positive and indicates overdominance
as prevailing inheritance mode, considering all crossing combinations. Dominance i.e. overdominance as inheritance mode
was recorded by regression analysis. The parents were divergent in terms of order of dominant and recessive alleles. The interalleles interaction was registered, too. Analysis of combining ability showed high significance of specific combining abilities
in both of generations, while general combining abilities were significant only in F2 generation, what confirm higher proportion of non – additivegenetic variance. The relation genetic combining abilities/specific combining abilities was less than 1.
The best general combiner for NHI in both F1
 and F2
 generation was Zitnica cultivar. The highest values of specific combining abilities were obtained in combinations Zelengora x Nizija and Zitnica x NS Rana 2. The emphasized cultivars could be
recommended for wheat breeding programes as source of desirable properties.",

AB  - About 60% of wheat fields in Central Serbia have a soil pH below 5.5. Therefore, increasing and maintaining crop yields require periodic use of soil amendment practices (liming, phosphorus treatment and humification), along with fertilization. This study was conducted over a period of five years (2007-2011) on a pseudogley soil to evaluate the effect of different fertilization methods and liming on grain yield, yield components and grain quality in three winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars. Results showed a significant effect of weather conditions on grain yield and quality in winter wheat. The combined use of NPK fertilizers (120 kg N ha(-1), 100 kg P2O5 ha(-1), 60 kg K2O ha(-1)), lime (5 t ha(-1) CaCO3) and manure (20 t ha(-1)) led to a drastic reduction in Al levels in the grain (by over 10 mg kg(-1)), and positively affected grain yield and yield components in winter wheat. Less favorable agro-meteorological conditions and combined organic and mineral fertilization positively affected grain protein concentration in all winter wheat cultivars analyzed.

Interrelationships between grain protein content and indicators of nitrogen status of wheat plant

AB  - Grain protein content is one of indicators of small grains quality. It is important trait, but negatively correlated with grain yield what represents obstacle in small grains breeding on quality and yield, simultaneously. The objective of investigation is to estimate interrelationships between grain protein content and some physiological indicators of nitrogen status in wheat. Tested indicators of nitrogen status in wheat plant are: nitrogen content in aboveground plant part at anthesis (Nanthesis), grain nitrogen content (Ngrain), nitrogen content at straw (Nstraw), nitrogen content at whole matured plant (Ntotal), nitrogen harvest index (NHI), nitrogen reutilization (NreU), nitrogen lost or gained (Npost anthesis) and physiological efficiency of nitrogen (PEN). According to obtained correlation coefficients, NHI and NreU expressed statistically high significant and positive influence on grain protein content. Influence of Npost anthesis was, in some investigation years, statistically high significant and positive, while influence of PEN on grain protein content was statistically high significant and strong, but negative. Influence of indicators of nitrogen accumulation efficiency, like: Nanthesis, Ngrain, Nstraw and Ntotal on grain protein content was insignificant during entire investigation. Such notice could mean higher importance of nitrogen utilization, as a part of process of nitrogen nutrition, in grain protein synthesis. Obtained results could achieve to better understanding of grain protein synthesis and overcoming some evident obstacles in wheat breeding programs.

AB  - Composition and characteristics of soil adsorptive complex are very important to understand
physicals and chemicals processes which affect soil fertility and nutrients availability to
plants. The paper deals with influence of many years ameliorative application of lime, manure
and mineral fertilizers on adsorptive complex composition of pseudogley soil in Kraljevo
valley. Soil belongs to group of extremely acid soil pseudogley type. Two – field crop rotation
wheat – maize was applied. Soil samples were taken from opened profiles and numbered 1
(unfertilized variant – control), 2 (NPK) and 3 (NPK+CaCO3+manure). Arable lands,
pseudogley type, have a high degree of dealkalinization of eluvial, -Ah and Eg-, layers and
B1tg layer, too. Capacity value of cations exchange and saturation degree of exchangeable –
adsorbed alkaline cations (Ca2+, Mg2+ and H+
(+Al) ions) varied considerable. Their
composition and content, especially at -Ah and Eg layers, were unsatisfactory, mainly.
According to noticed V – values (< 50%), analyzed soil belongs to group of "moderately
unsaturated" soils. Many years, periodically, application of pedo–ameliorative treatments as:
liming, phosphatization and humification, influenced increase of degree of alkali saturation
(V%) and capacity of cations exchange (T) at Ah layer for more than 40% and 10
m.ekv./100 g soil, respectively. Part of alkaline cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+) was increased,
averagely, for 10 m.ekv./100 g soil or about 14.25% in relation with T values. Content of
exchangeable – adsorbed K+
, Na+
, Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions at eluvial horizons (Ah and Eg) was
rather low, at analyzed soil profiles. Calcification caused increase of content of exchangeable
Ca2+, Mg2+ and K+
in adsorptive complex of analyzed soil.

AB  - The topic of nitrogen wheat nutrition was becoming very actually during last decades of last
century because of many reasons: fertilizers price, energetic crises, environmental protection,
ecological agriculture. Despite the detrimental impacts, the use of fertilizers (N in particular)
in agriculture, together with an improvement in cropping systems, mainly in developed
countries, have provided a food supply sufficient for both animal and human consumption.
Therefore, the challenge for the next decades, with an expanding world population, will be to
develop a highly productive agriculture, whilst at the same time preserving the quality of the
environment. A multidisciplinary approach to breeding winter wheat and include
physiological indicators of nitrogen nutrition efficiency could help in achieving this goal.
Consequently, this paper deals with physiological indicator as nitrogen harvest index, its
connection with grain yield, heritability and variance and evaluation of Serbian winter wheat
genotypes in term of this indicator. The best values of nitrogen harvest index were registered
at KG 165/2, Pobeda and Bujna. Emphasized genotypes, selected as superior in term of this
indicator, could be considered as carriers of de desirable traits in terms of wheat breeding
theory, improvement of production efficiency, environmental protection and development of
ecological agriculture.

AB  - Considering the very important role of nitrogen in plant life cycle, parameters of plant nitrogen nutrition efficiency represent a group of physiological traits suitable to contemporary wheat breeding aims. Therefore, the objectives of the study were to estimate variability of nitrogen nutrition efficiency indicators and to estimate their heritability in wheat. The experiment included 30 wheat cultivars and experimental lines, originating from Serbia: Small Grains Research Center and Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad. The variability and broad - sense heritability of total nitrogen accumulation (ANt) at maturity, grain harvest index (GIII) and physiological efficiency of nitrogen (PEN) were analysed. The years when the researches were carried out had a highly significant effect on all tested indicators, as well as genotype and interaction year x genotype. Total nitrogen accumulation in mature plant was the most variable indicator (Cv 13.91%), while lower variability was registered for nitrogen harvest index and physiological efficiency of nitrogen (5.81% and 5.59% respectively). NHI heritability was lower (0.52) compared to the ANt and PEN (0.66 and 0.69, respectively). On the other hand, heritability of ANt and PEN were almost the same, but PEN was more repeatable than the ANt.

abstract = "Considering the very important role of nitrogen in plant life cycle, parameters of plant nitrogen nutrition efficiency represent a group of physiological traits suitable to contemporary wheat breeding aims. Therefore, the objectives of the study were to estimate variability of nitrogen nutrition efficiency indicators and to estimate their heritability in wheat. The experiment included 30 wheat cultivars and experimental lines, originating from Serbia: Small Grains Research Center and Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad. The variability and broad - sense heritability of total nitrogen accumulation (ANt) at maturity, grain harvest index (GIII) and physiological efficiency of nitrogen (PEN) were analysed. The years when the researches were carried out had a highly significant effect on all tested indicators, as well as genotype and interaction year x genotype. Total nitrogen accumulation in mature plant was the most variable indicator (Cv 13.91%), while lower variability was registered for nitrogen harvest index and physiological efficiency of nitrogen (5.81% and 5.59% respectively). NHI heritability was lower (0.52) compared to the ANt and PEN (0.66 and 0.69, respectively). On the other hand, heritability of ANt and PEN were almost the same, but PEN was more repeatable than the ANt.",

AB  - The topic of nitrogen for wheat nutrition has become quite important over the
last few decades for many reasons. The most important are the energy crises and the
escalation of the price of fertiliser, causing a decrease in profitability of small grains
production and an adverse impact from the excessive use of nitrogen (N) fertiliser on
the ecosystem and the production healthy safe food. Despite the detrimental impacts,
the use of chemical fertilisers, especially N in agriculture, together with an
improvement in cropping systems (mainly in developed countries), has provided a
food supply sufficient for both animal and human consumption. Therefore, the
challenge for the next few decades, considering the expanding world population, will
be to develop highly productive agriculture, whilst at the same time preserving the
quality of the environment. A selection approach to this issue is to identify winter
wheat genotypes efficient in absorption and utilisation of soil nitrogen, which would
be desirable for both practical production and breeding programs. Consequently, this
paper deals with an evaluation of Serbian winter wheat genotypes in terms of some
indicators of their nitrogen absorption and utilisation efficiency. Genotypes KG 10,
Evropa 90, and Morava were the most efficient at nitrogen accumulation in the
aboveground part of plant during the phases of anthesis, grain, straw, and total
nitrogen accumulation at maturity. The best nitrogen partitioning between grain and
straw was registered in the genotypes KG 165/2, Pobeda and Bujna. Prima, Lepenica
and Studenica had the most efficient reutilization of nitrogen, which accumulated in
the plant until anthesis, while the genotypes KG 200/31, KG 253/4-1 and KG 10
expressed the greatest ability to continue nitrogen assimilation during the
reproductive period. Genotypes, selected as superior in absorption and utilization of
nitrogen, are considered the carriers of desirable traits in terms of wheat breeding
theory, improvement of production efficiency, environmental protection, and the
development of sustainable agriculture.

Interrelationships between grain nitrogen content and other indicators of nitrogen accumulation and utilization efficiency in wheat plants

AB  - The topic of N wheat nutrition was prevalent during the last decades of the 20th century for many reasons such as energy crises, profitability of small grain production, and ecosystem protection and preservation. The objective of this study was to determine the interrelationships between wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain N content and other indicators of N nutrition efficiency to better understand the N nutrition process in wheat plants. The experiment included 30 wheat cultivars and experimental lines from Serbia. Plant samples of each genotype were taken at anthesis and maturity. The following parameters related to N accumulation and translocation within the wheat plant were calculated: N content (at anthesis, grain, straw, and total at maturity), N harvest index (NHI), N reutilization (N reU), and N lost (-) or gained (N post-anthesis). Our results showed that N content in the aboveground part of the plant expressed very strong direct positive effects on N yield (phenotypic coefficient 3.78** to 9.34** and genotypic coefficient 1.43** to 2.32**), while its indirect effects varied. The influence of independent variables on grain N content has been changing from year to year in a negative way. Total N accumulation (N total) had the highest negative direct effect in the first year of the study (phenotypic coefficient -2.11**), N total in the second (phenotypic coefficient -2.78**), and N reutilization in the third (phenotypic coefficient -8.49**). Genotypic coefficients indicate that the most frequent strong direct negative effect was N reutilization (-0.47** and -0.99** in the first 2 yr of research, respectively). Nitrogen reutilization and its current assimilation are very important and related to grain N supply processes. Their interaction leads to the conclusion that forming N yield is a very complex mechanism and, as a result, grain yield and quality. The abovementioned parameters could be considered as important criteria in wheat breeding to improve production efficiency and reduce adverse impacts of N fertilizers on the ecosystem.

AB  - U radu je razmatrana mogućnost korišćenja fizioloških parametara, koji se odnose na efikasnost ishrane pšenice azotom, kao kriterijuma u oplemenjivanju na prinos zrna, na osnovu njihove međuzavisnosti i uticaja na neke osobine povezane sa prinosom zrna pšenice (biološki prinos, žetveni indeks zrna). Istraživanje je izvedeno kao trogodišnji poljski ogled i uključivalo je 30 sorti i perspektivnih linija pšenice. Od fizioloških parametara proučavani su: sadržaj azota u nadzemnom delu biljke u cvetanju, sadržaj azota u zrnu i slami, ukupni sadržaj azota u zreloj biljci, žetveni indeks azota, reutilizacija i prirast azota i fiziološka efikasnost azota. Utvrđena je pozitivna i statistički visoko značajna korelacija između prinosa zrna i skoro svih ispitivanih fizioloških parametara: sadržaja azota u biljci, u cvetanju, zrnu, slami, ukupnog sadržaja azota u zreloj biljci, reutilizacije i prirasta azota. Imajući to u vidu, kao i njihovu merljivost i jednostavnost u izračunavanju, navedeni fiziološki parametri mogu se preporučiti kao kriterijumi za odabir roditeljskih parova i ocenu potomstava u oplemenjivanju pšenice na prinos zrna.
AB  - This paper deals with interrelationship between grain yield and some physiological parameters of wheat plant nitrogen nutrition efficiency as well as interrelationships between these parameters and some yield related traits (biological yield, grain harvest index). The aim of such investigation is to affirm possibilities of using physiological parameters of wheat plant nitrogen nutrition efficiency as criterions in breeding on its grain yield. The investigation, conducted as three years field trials, included 30 wheat cultivars and perspective lines. There were studied: nitrogen content in the above - ground part of plant at anthesis, in grain, in straw and total nitrogen content at maturity, nitrogen harvest index, nitrogen reutilization, post - anthesis nitrogen accumulation and physiological efficiency of nitrogen. The positive and statistically high significant relationships between nitrogen content in the above - ground part of plant at anthesis, in grain and in straw, total nitrogen content at maturity, nitrogen reutilization and post - anthesis accumulation as physiological parameters and grain yield were registered in investigated material. Most of listed parameters, important by grain yield aspect, can be studied easily and measured before wheat vegetative period ends. The investigated parameters can be recommended as criterions for selecting of parental pairs and evaluating progeny in breeding of wheat on grain yield, considering to their determined interrelationships and their measurability.

AB  - Organski ratarski sistemi su značajni sa aspekta zaštite ekosistema i dobijanja proizvoda visoke nutritivne vrednosti. Generalno, u ekološkoj proizvodnji strnih žita zastupljene su sve agrotehničke mere kao i u konvencionalnom sistemu gajenja. Standardi organske odnosno ekološke proizvodnje, međutim, podrazumevaju značajne izmene u odnosu na konvencionalni tip ratarenja. Značajne promene se predviđaju u primeni mehanizacije, plodoredu, đubrenju i zaštiti biljaka. Osnova đubrenja i zaštite useva u ekološkoj proizvodnji jeste primena bio - preparata i dobro poznavanje specifičnosti sorti, biologije korova i prirode bolesti. Plodored je suštinska mera u organskom ratarenju i u kombinaciji sa združivanjem useva predstavlja način efektivnijeg iskorišćavanja i očuvanja plodnosti zemljišta. U osnovi preporučene tehnologije gajenja strnih žita u ekološkom sistemu jeste orijentacija na domaće sorte, očuvanje i pospešivanje biodiverziteta i briga o zemljištu. Značajna pomoć u unapređenju ekološkog odnosno organskog gajenja strnih žita očekuje se od selekcije i oplemenjivanja ovih vrsta za potrebe ovog sistema ratarenja. .
AB  - Organic farming systems are important for ecosystem protection and producing high nutritive values productions. Generally, the whole system of growing technology is applicable in ecological production of small grains like in conventional one, with certain changes in relation to it. The important changes will appear in application of some cultural practices like as soil tillage, crop rotation, fertilization and plant protection. The base of fertilization and plant protection in ecological agriculture is application of bio-preparations and good knowledge of cultivar characterizations, weed biology and diseases. Crop rotation is essential practice in the ecological system, which, combined with intercroping, represents the way of better usage and preservation of productive soils. The orientation to local varieties, preservation and enhancement of biodiversity and soil concerns are foundation of recommended small grains growing technology in ecological system. The improvement of ecological and organic small grains growing is expected from field of breeding these species according to the requirements of this type of farming. .

abstract = "Organski ratarski sistemi su značajni sa aspekta zaštite ekosistema i dobijanja proizvoda visoke nutritivne vrednosti. Generalno, u ekološkoj proizvodnji strnih žita zastupljene su sve agrotehničke mere kao i u konvencionalnom sistemu gajenja. Standardi organske odnosno ekološke proizvodnje, međutim, podrazumevaju značajne izmene u odnosu na konvencionalni tip ratarenja. Značajne promene se predviđaju u primeni mehanizacije, plodoredu, đubrenju i zaštiti biljaka. Osnova đubrenja i zaštite useva u ekološkoj proizvodnji jeste primena bio - preparata i dobro poznavanje specifičnosti sorti, biologije korova i prirode bolesti. Plodored je suštinska mera u organskom ratarenju i u kombinaciji sa združivanjem useva predstavlja način efektivnijeg iskorišćavanja i očuvanja plodnosti zemljišta. U osnovi preporučene tehnologije gajenja strnih žita u ekološkom sistemu jeste orijentacija na domaće sorte, očuvanje i pospešivanje biodiverziteta i briga o zemljištu. Značajna pomoć u unapređenju ekološkog odnosno organskog gajenja strnih žita očekuje se od selekcije i oplemenjivanja ovih vrsta za potrebe ovog sistema ratarenja. ., Organic farming systems are important for ecosystem protection and producing high nutritive values productions. Generally, the whole system of growing technology is applicable in ecological production of small grains like in conventional one, with certain changes in relation to it. The important changes will appear in application of some cultural practices like as soil tillage, crop rotation, fertilization and plant protection. The base of fertilization and plant protection in ecological agriculture is application of bio-preparations and good knowledge of cultivar characterizations, weed biology and diseases. Crop rotation is essential practice in the ecological system, which, combined with intercroping, represents the way of better usage and preservation of productive soils. The orientation to local varieties, preservation and enhancement of biodiversity and soil concerns are foundation of recommended small grains growing technology in ecological system. The improvement of ecological and organic small grains growing is expected from field of breeding these species according to the requirements of this type of farming. .",

AB  - Ekološka poljoprivreda, kao činilac održivog poljoprivrednog sistema, promoviše farmerski tip proizvodnje tj. mešovitu biljnu i stočarsku proizvodnju. U zahtevima za organizovanje organske stočarske proizvodnje ističu se uslovi za obezbeđenjem dovoljnih količina kvalitetne hrane, proizvedene po načelima ekološke poljoprivrede. To pretpostavlja obezbeđenje kvalitetne ispaše, slobodnog kretanja, neophodnih komfornih uslova gajenja, kao i koncentrovane i kabaste konzervisane hrane. Strna žita imaju veoma važnu ulogu u obezbeđenju potpune funkcionalne ishrane domaćih životinja. Raznolikost upotrebe, odgovarajući hemijski sastav, prihvatljiva i proučena tehnologija gajenja primenom principa i metoda organske proizvodnje, svrstavaju strna žita u nezamenljivi izvor energetskih i proteinskih potreba životinja. .
AB  - Ecological agriculture, as factor of sustainable agriculture system, promote eco farms as unity of plant and livestock production. An important principle in organic animal production organizing is to provide all livestock with good living conditions and keeping their natural behavior and needs. Living conditions have to consider the natural needs of the animals for free movement, social behavior, food, pastures and grassland areas, organically produced forage and concentrated feedstuffs, water, shelter, shade and direct unfiltered sunlight. Small grains have their important application in providing complete, functional livestock nutrition. Small grains represent irreplaceable source of energy and proteins for animals due to various possibilities of their use, adequate chemical composition, acceptable and studied growing technology, with application of organic farming principles and methods. .

AB  - This paper contains the analysis of seed production of KG varieties of small grains (wheat. barley, triticale, rye and oats) in the period from 2005/06 to 2009/10. year. Particular emphasis is given to analyze the role of KG varieties in improving of small grains biodiversity in Serbia. It should be noted that KG Center, despite the difficulties, makes a significant contribution in providing the local market with seed of all important kind of small grains of winter and spring types. It is noticeable the slight increase in the quantity of KG seed produced in this period, with wheat and triticale stagnation. For barley. oats and rye are achieved significantly better results in the production and sale of seed. Based on the share of KG varieties in the structure of sowing it is undisputed that KG Center contributed significantly to the improvement of biodiversity in the area of small grains, which especially was noticeable in barley, triticale, oats and rye.

AB  - Istraživanje je izvedeno u sudovima u staklari Centra za strna žita u Kragujevcu, tokom 3 godine. Obuhvatalo je po jednu sortu pšenice, ječma, ovsa, tritikalea i raži, a od korovskih vrsta Agropyron repens, Cirsium arvense, Sonchus arvensis i Sorghum halepense. Cilj istraživanja je bio da se ispita alelopatski uticaji između korova i strnih žita sa aspekta žetveni indeks zrna, kako bi se imalo više rezultata o njihovim složenim odnosima. Primenjeni ekstrakti korova su uglavnom ispoljili negativan uticaj na žetveni indeks zrna, mada je bilo i stimulativnih efekata. Najveće smanjenje žetvenog indeksa zrna zabeleženo je u varijantama sa Cirsium arvense i Sorghum halepense. Ječam je među ispitivanim vrstama strnih žita ispoljio najveću osetljivost, sa aspekta ŽIZ, dok je najnepovoljnija alelopatija postojala između strnih žita i korovskih vrsta Cirsium arvense i Sorghum halepense.
AB  - The aim of this investigation was to study allelopathic relationships between weeds and small grains by grain harvest index (GHI) of small grain in order to provide more information about these complex relationships. The study included small grains (wheat, barley, oat, triticale and rye) and some weed species: Agropyron repens, Cirsium arvense, Sonchus arvensis and Sorghum halepense. Applied extracts of weed species mainly expressed suppressed effect on GHI, but stimulating actions were noticed, too. Positive influence on GHI was registered with Agropyron repens and Sonchus arvensis variant in wheat and with Agropyron repens segments variant in oat.
