Non-Destructive Assessment of Leaf Chlorophyll and Epidermal Flavonoids in Two Tomato Cultivars (Solanum Lycopersicum L.) Grown Under Different Trichoderma spp. Treatments

AB  - The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of different Trichoderma spp. treatments (T1: Trichoderma harzianum, T2: Trichoderma brevicompactum, and T3: T1 + T2) on two tomato cultivars (‘Narvik’ and ‘Gružanski zlatni’) by the non-destructive monitoring of chlorophyll (Chl) and epidermal flavonol (Flav) indices and nitrogen balance index (NBI) in their leaves. The main objectives were to compare the responses of tomato cultivars considered (grown in a greenhouse) to different Trichoderma strains and a combination of Trichoderma strains. Variations in the Chl, Flav, and NBI values obtained were significantly influenced by nearly all the factors examined (namely the tomato cultivar, experimental week, and treatment), the interaction of which was found significant for all the parameters analyzed. The results obtained indicate that the combinations of strains in the T3 treatment markedly enhanced the Chl content in the ‘Narvik’ cultivar in some experimental weeks. Moreover, reduced NBI values were determined in the Trichoderma-treated ‘Narvik’ plants due to the increased flavonol content, which indicates a shift from primary to secondary metabolism. Further research, including the same cultivars and treatments, is warranted under field conditions to evaluate the physiological responses of the ‘Narvik’ and ‘Gružanski zlatni’ tomato cultivars in a multiple-stressor environment.

Productivity of Serbian wheat genotypes grown in ecological agricultural system

AB  - Due to strict rules in ecological plant production, especially in
case of fertilization and plants protection, productivity i. e. yield could be
limited. Choosing the appropriate genotypes, modest requirements to the inputs
and adapted to the conditions of ecological cultivation is a particularly
important point and one of the prerequisites for economical, profitable and
stable production, without big risks and losses. The aim of this paper was to
estimate adaptability of wheat genotypes to ecological growing conditions
according to grain yield. The trial was carried out in Center for Small Grains,
Kragujevac, Serbia. 23 Serbian wheat genotypes were included. There were
applied two fertilization variants (manure and NPK fertilizers) and control
one, too. Mainly, NPK fertilizers caused statistically significant differences in
grain yield. At the same time, manure influenced the increase of grain yield
compared to the control variant. The genotypes that achieved similar yields,
without significant differences in relation to applied fertilizers, were: Morava,
Lepenica, Studenica, KG 100, Lazarica, Pobeda, Evropa 90, Perla, Pesma.
Vizija was the more yielding in manure than in NPK variant. Those varieties
are interested for practical cultivation in ecological agriculture and could be
significant material in wheat breeding in order to obtain new varieties adapted
to the ecological system of cultivation and sustainable agriculture.

AB  - Maize is one of the most important cereal crops. Besides its use as food
and feed, maize is also an energy crop. In order to ensure sufficient quantities of
maize, the main goal of every breeding program is to develop new, better hybrids.
Correlation and path coefficient analysis can be used for indirect selection of highyielding
hybrids. In light of that, one of the objectives of this paper was to determine
relationship between grain yield and morphological traits, for 8 inbred lines and their
hybrids, Strong genetic and phenotypic correlations were found between grain yield
and other studied traits, except between grain yield, on one side, and kernel row
number, where we found medium phenotypic correlations, Between morphological
traits of plant and ear the highest values of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of
correlations were found between ear length and kernel number per row. Also, the
objective of this research was to find the direct and indirect effects of morphological
traits on grain yield. Desirable, high significant influence on grain yield in path
coefficient analysis, was found for almost all studied traits. Ear height was the only
trait that had negative direct genetic and phenotypic influence.

AB  - Stvaranje novih, prinosnijih hibrida osnovni je cilj svakog oplemenjivačkog programa. Prinos je veoma kompleksno svojstvo i, kako
bi se prilikom oplemenjivanja izabrala najpogodnija metoda, neophodno je
pažnju posvetiti i međuzavisnosti prinosa zrna i komponenti prinosa zrna.
Iz tog razloga, cilj ovog istraživanja je bio da se ustanovi međuzavisnost
prinosa i komponenti prinosa (dužina klipa, broj redova zrna na klipu, broj
zrna u redu i masa 100 zrna), kao i između prinosa i komponenti prinosa, sa jedne strane i sadržaja ulja u zrnu, sa druge strane. U istraživanju je
korišćeno 7 inbred linija i njihovo potomstvo ukrštanja. Ogled je postavljen po slučajnom blok sistemu, sa tri ponavljanja. Najjača međuzavisnost
ustanovljena je između prinosa zrna i broja zrna u redu, a kod ostalih
proučavanih osobina, između dužine klipa i broja zrna u redu. Sadžaj ulja
u zrnu bio je u negativnoj korelaciji sa svim proučavanim osobinama,
izuzev sa brojem redova zrna na klipu.

Ekonomski pokazatelji gajenja heljde sa aspekta održivog razvoja

AB  - Koncept odrzivog razycoja je uspostavljen poslednjih decenija
20. veka, sa ciljem da se primenjuje u svim privrednim delatnostima, ukljucujuci
i poljoprivredu. Odriiva poljoprivreda je, imajuci u vidu znaéaj
ove delatnoisti, njena dostignuéa, ali i rizike u odnosu na Zivotnu sredinu
i zdravstvenu sigurnost potrogaéa, jedan od preduslova odrzivog razvoja.
Realizacija ovog koncepta podrazumeva izmene u sprovodenju odredenih
agrotehnickih mera i procedura, posebno dubrenja, zastite biljaka, obrade
zemljista i setvene strukture. Vaznu ulogu u odrzivim poljoprivrednim
sistemima imaju alternativne biline vrste, kojima pripada i heljda (Fagopyrum
esculentum Moench.). Njen znaéaj proizilazi iz njenih agroteh nickih prednosti, nutritivnih i lekovitih svojstava. Svetska proizvodnja heljde
je, perioditno, oscilirala, da bi danas pokazivala trend rasta. Najveci
deo svetske proizvodnje heljde ostvaruje se u Evropi i Aziji (93.67 %). Najveci
izvoznik je, u 2021., bila Rusija (41% ukupnog svetskog izvoza), dok
su najveci uvoznici bili Japan i Kina. Izvozna cena je u toj godini belezila
rast od 24% u odnosu na prethodnu, a sliéan trend je pokazivala i uvozna
cena. Prepreke za masovnije gajenje heljde predstavijaju nizak prinos zrna
i te’ko¢e i gubici tokom Zetve. Kombinovanje modernih i klasiénih metoda
u oplemenjivanju i selekciji heljde bi moglo da doprinese prevazilazenju
okolnosti koje limitiraju njenu proizvodnju.

i poljoprivredu. Odriiva poljoprivreda je, imajuci u vidu znaéaj
ove delatnoisti, njena dostignuéa, ali i rizike u odnosu na Zivotnu sredinu
i zdravstvenu sigurnost potrogaéa, jedan od preduslova odrzivog razvoja.
Realizacija ovog koncepta podrazumeva izmene u sprovodenju odredenih
agrotehnickih mera i procedura, posebno dubrenja, zastite biljaka, obrade
zemljista i setvene strukture. Vaznu ulogu u odrzivim poljoprivrednim
sistemima imaju alternativne biline vrste, kojima pripada i heljda (Fagopyrum
esculentum Moench.). Njen znaéaj proizilazi iz njenih agroteh nickih prednosti, nutritivnih i lekovitih svojstava. Svetska proizvodnja heljde
je, perioditno, oscilirala, da bi danas pokazivala trend rasta. Najveci
deo svetske proizvodnje heljde ostvaruje se u Evropi i Aziji (93.67 %). Najveci
izvoznik je, u 2021., bila Rusija (41% ukupnog svetskog izvoza), dok
su najveci uvoznici bili Japan i Kina. Izvozna cena je u toj godini belezila
rast od 24% u odnosu na prethodnu, a sliéan trend je pokazivala i uvozna
cena. Prepreke za masovnije gajenje heljde predstavijaju nizak prinos zrna
i te’ko¢e i gubici tokom Zetve. Kombinovanje modernih i klasiénih metoda
u oplemenjivanju i selekciji heljde bi moglo da doprinese prevazilazenju
okolnosti koje limitiraju njenu proizvodnju.",

AB  - Polovinom 20. veka doilo je do inteziviranja poljoprivredne pro- izvodnje. Moguénost prevazilazenja ovog problema pronadena je u razvijanju odrzivih sistema poljoprivredne proizvodnije, a organska poljoprivreda je jedan od vidova odrzive poljoprivrede. Cilj ovog rada je da se prikaZe istorijski razvoj organske poljoprivrede kao o
sistema poljoprivrede, kao i stanje u organskoj poljoprivredi danas +
spektiva njenog razvoja. Analiti¢ari razvoj organske poljoprivrede
tri faze: organic 1.0, 2.01 3.0. Organic 1.0 je faza pojave pionira koji su

AB  - Fruits of Sorbus torminalis L. Crantz. (Wild service tree) have been traditionally used, fresh or dried, for
the production of preserves such as jam, jelly, syrup, compote or tea. Furtheremore, these fruits are well
known worldwide as a traditional remedy for treating respiratory tract infections, as traditional astringent,
diarrheic and antidiabetic agents. As a part of broad research, the aim of this study was to define phenolic
profile as well as antioxidant activity of water and methanolic extracts of dried fruits. The presence and
content of 44 plant phenolics and quinic acid was determined using LC-MS/MS technique. In order to
examine antioxidant potency, few in vitro assays were carried out: DPPH. (diphenylpicrylhydrazyl), HO»
(hydroxyl radical), and reducing power (FRAP) assay. In addition, total phenolic and flavonoid contents were
determined spectrophotometrically. Among examined compounds, quinic acid (precursor of phenolics) was
the most dominant among both samples. Moreover, protocatechuic an ferulic acids were the most abundant
amongst phenolics acids. Furthermore, analysis of selected flavonoids showed notable content of
amentoflavone as well as quercetin glycosides (quercetin-3-O-glucoside and hyperoside). In applied
antioxidant tests, methanolic extract showed the highest antiradical activity. Compared to propyl galate, a
well known synthetic antioxidant, both extracts exhibited a potent antioxidant activity. Total phenolic content
was significant, expecially in methanolic extract, while total phenolic content was low in both extracts.
Obtained results indicates a significant antioxidant potential of S. torminalis fruits and higly support
traditional use of this species in diet, but also points to its use as a functional food.

AB  - Selection of the best breeding technique for the development of new maize
hybrids is based on knowledge of gene effects type responsible for the
expression of quantitative traits. Thus, the goal of this study was to evaluate
gene effects on the grain yield, as the most important agronomic trait, as
well as for kernel oil content. one of the major characteristics of maize
quality.
Genetic material used for the determination of gene effects consisted of
four inbred lines: 1109/1V NS, 56811 NS, 922 NS and A-l. Inbred line
1109/1V NS is high oil inbred line, and 568/11 NS, 922 NS A-1 are lines
with a different type of seed: dent, semi-dent and flint, respectively. Six
basic generations were produced: parental inbred lines (Pi, Pa), first and
second filial generations (Fy, F2) and backcross generations (BC), BC2).
Two years experiment was performed at the experimental field of the
Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad, Serbia (Rimski Sangevi)
using a completely randomized design with eight replicates. Evaluation of
gene effects was performed by generation mean analysis.
Obtained results indicated that dominant gene effect had a higher influence
than additive in inheritance of the grain yield. The significant presence of
duplicate type of epistasis was recorded in all test-cross combinations. For
kernel oil content dominance was more important than additive gene action
for almost all studied test-crosses. Additive gene effect was higher than
dominance only for hybrid 1109/IV NS = 56811 NS. Morcover, a
significant presence of duplicate type of cpistasis also was detected for
kernel oil content.
The significant role of the dominant gene effect in the inheritance of grain
vield and kernel oil content in almost all test-cross combinations indicates that inbreding-hybridization method is a useful method for the development of
better hybrids.

Soil quality of the modern apple orchard grown under different NPK fertilization systems

AB  - In cnhancing agricultural productivity, one of the most important
determinants is to choose the best fertilizer application system. Among
different application systems. fertigation can have multiple benefits on the
yield and quality of crops since it can significantly reduce costs and
increase the profitability. However. inadequate, excessive application of
fertilizers through fertigation and irrigation may lead to soil degradation
and deterioration of soil fertility. resulting in a change of some physical and
chemical parameters of soil. Thus, the aim of this study was to compare the
effect of fertigation and conventional fertilization on the soil chemical
characteristics.
The experiment was designed to determine the effect of two different ways
of fertilizer application (through two treatments: drip irrigation systemfertigation
and classical way) and three different doses of NPK fertilizers
on chemical parameters of chernozem soil type. in a modern apple (Red
Jonaprince variety) orchard. From cach treatment. bulk soil samples were
taken for the determination of soil pH, mineral nitrogen (N), readily
available potassium (K:0) and phosphorus (P20s). Samples were collected
in the spring, before fertilizer application, to determine the initial soil
condition and in the autumn, at the end of the vegetation period.
The pH in H:0 when the highest dose of fertilizer was applied by
fertigation had a significantly lower value compared to the control. while in
classical fertilization all three doses implicated a decrease of pH value
compared to the control. The results showed that different doses of
fertilizers significantly affected the content of N, K:O and P:0s.
Furthermore, the obtained results were strongly affected by meteorological
conditions, because in some months the application of irrigation was not necessary, due to a large amount of precipitation. To conclude, these results
could serve as an indicator for further analysis of soil impact on yield and
quality of apple fruit.

and deterioration of soil fertility. resulting in a change of some physical and
chemical parameters of soil. Thus, the aim of this study was to compare the
effect of fertigation and conventional fertilization on the soil chemical
characteristics.
The experiment was designed to determine the effect of two different ways
of fertilizer application (through two treatments: drip irrigation systemfertigation
and classical way) and three different doses of NPK fertilizers
on chemical parameters of chernozem soil type. in a modern apple (Red
Jonaprince variety) orchard. From cach treatment. bulk soil samples were
taken for the determination of soil pH, mineral nitrogen (N), readily
available potassium (K:0) and phosphorus (P20s). Samples were collected
in the spring, before fertilizer application, to determine the initial soil
condition and in the autumn, at the end of the vegetation period.
The pH in H:0 when the highest dose of fertilizer was applied by
fertigation had a significantly lower value compared to the control. while in
classical fertilization all three doses implicated a decrease of pH value
compared to the control. The results showed that different doses of
fertilizers significantly affected the content of N, K:O and P:0s.
Furthermore, the obtained results were strongly affected by meteorological
conditions, because in some months the application of irrigation was not necessary, due to a large amount of precipitation. To conclude, these results
could serve as an indicator for further analysis of soil impact on yield and
quality of apple fruit.",

AB  - УВОД и ЦИЉЕВИ: У савременим засадима јабуке, ђубрење и наводњавање спадају међу најважније агротехничке мере од којих зависи раст и родност. Фертиригација је поступак који обједињује ове две агротехничке мере, чиме се остварује значајна уштеда у употреби ђубрива и смањују губици нитратних облика азота. За остваривање високих приноса доброг квалитетна неопходна је адекватна примена ђубрива. Из тог разлога, један од циљева овог рада је био испитивање различитих доза минералних ђубрива на компроненте приноса и принос јабуке. Такође, циљ овог истраживања је био и утврђивање оптималнијег начина уношења хранива.
МАТЕРИЈАЛ и МЕТОД: Како би се испитао утицај различитих доза ђубрива и начина примене ђубрива на принос и компоненте приноса јабуке постављен је оглед у засаду јабуке Red Jonaprince на огледном пољу Департмана за воћарство, виноградарство, хортикултуру и пејзажну
архитектуру на Римским Шанчевима. Оглед је постављен по систему подељених парцела. Примењенe су три различите дозе ђубрива: N1P1K1 – 50 kg/ha N, 30 kg/ha P2O5, 60 kg/ha K2O;
N2P2K2 – 100 kg/ha N, 59.8 kg/ha P2O5, 100 kg/ha K2O; N3P3K3 – 150 kg/ha N, 80.6 kg/ha P2O5, 140
kg/ha K2O. Апликација хранива урађена је класичним начином и фертиригацијом крот систем за наводњавање кап по кап. Анализиране су следеће особина: број плодова по стаблу, просечна маса плодова и принос плода по стаблу. Мерења су урађена на по 10 стабала по сваком понављању, а просечна маса плодова је утврђена на основу 10 плодова по стаблу. Анализа варијансе урађена је по моделу подељених парцелана на основу средњих вредности. Поређење средњих вредности
урађено је применом LSD теста. Статистичка обрада података урађена је у програму Statistic.
РЕЗУЛТАТИ и ЗАКЉУЧЦИ: Највећи број плодова по стаблу остварен је применом највеће дозе NPK хранива фертиригацијом. Број плодова по стаблу услед примене овог третмана био је статистички значајно виши у односу на контролу и најмању проимењену дозу хранива. При
класичном начину примене минералних ђубрива ни једна доза ђубрива није значајно утицала на повећање броја плодова по стаблу. За другу проучавану особину, просечна маса плодова, при класичном начину примене ђубрива највећа вредност измерена је при примени најмање дозе хранива, и она се статистички значајно разликовала од контроле. За други примењен третман, фертиригацију, највећа вредност за ову особину установњена је при примени највеће дозе минералних хранива, и она је била статистички значајно већа у односу на контролу и друге две дозе хранива. Највећи принос остварен је третманом N3P3K3 примењеног фертиригацијом и статистички се значајно разликовао само у односу на контролу и третман N1P1K1 примењен
фертиригацијом, док у односу на остале примењене третмане није забележена статистички значајна разлика. Иако анализом варијансе није установњена статистичка значајност између примењених начина ђубрења, више средње вредности за скоро све проучаване особине установљене су применом фертиригације. Како истовремена примена наводњавања и ђубрива повећава ефикасност коришћења хранива и воде, уз значајну уштеду ресурса и смањење
контаминације земљишта, односно животне средине, примена фертиригације пружа велике могућности за оптимално решење најзначајнијих мера гајења јабуке.
AB  - INTRODUCTION and OBJECTIVES: In modern apple orchards, fertilization and irrigation are
among the most important agrotechnical measures on which growth and yield depend. Fertigation is a
process that combines these two agrotechnical measures, providing significant savings in the use of
fertilizers and reducing losses of nitrate forms of nitrogen. Adequate application of fertilizers is
necessary to achieve high and good quality yields. For that reason, one of the goals of this study was to
examine application of different doses of fertilizers on yield components and apple yield. Also, the aim
of this research was to determine a more optimal way of nutrient intake.
MATERIAL and METHOD: In order to examine the effects of fertilization rate and methods on apple
yield and yield component, an experiment was set up in apple orchard in the experimental field of the
Department of Fruit Growing, Viticulture, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture on Rimski San&evi.
Apple variety was Red Jonaprince, and experiment was arranged in split plot design with three
replications. Three different fertilizer doses were applied: N1P1K1 — 50 kg/ha N, 30 kg/ha P,Os, 60
kg/ha K,0; N2P2K2 — 100 kg/ha N, 59.8 kg/ha P,Os, 100 kg/ha K;0O; N3P3K3 — 150 kg/ha N, 80.6
kg/ha P,Os, 140 kg/ha K,0. The nutrients application was done by drip irrigation system — fertigation
and classical way. The following traits were analyzed: fruit number per tree, average fruit weight and
fruit yield per tree. The data for fruit number per tree and fruit yield per tree was recorded from 10
randomly chosen trees, and average fruit weight was determined on the basis of 10 fruits per tree per
replications. Analysis of variance was done according to the split-plot design based on mean values. The
comparison of mean values was done using the LSD test. For data processing software Statistic was
used.
RESULTS and CONCLUSIONS: The largest fruit number per tree was recorded when the highest
dose of NPK nutrients was applied by fertigation. It was significantly higher than mean value of fruit
number per tree on control plots and on plots when the lowest NPK dose was used. Classical way of
using fertilizers didn't significantly affected fruit number per tree. For the second studied trait, average
fruit weight, in classical way of fertilizer application, the highest mean value was recorded with the
lowest dose of NPK fertilizers. It was significantly different from the control. When fertilizer was
applied by fertigation, the highest mean value for this trait was found for the highest doses of NPK
nutrients. This mean value was significantly higher compared to the control and other two doses of
fertilizers. The highest fruit yield per tree was achieved with the treatments of N3P3K3 applied by
fertigation. It was statistically significantly different only in relation to the control and treatment of
N1PIK1 applied by fertigation. Although ANOVA did not establish statistical significance between the
applied fertilization methods, higher mean value for almost all studied traits were established using
fertigation. As the simultaneous application of irrigation and fertilizers increases the efficiency of
nutrient and water use, with significant savings of resources and reduction of soil and environmental
contamination, the application of fertigation provides greater opportunities for optimal solutions to the
most important agrotechnical measures of apple growing

Potential of Helicrysum italicum cultivated in urban environment: SCCO2 extract cytotoxicity & NF-kB activation in HeLa, MCF-7 and MRC-5 cells

AB  - Urban horticulture and vertical gardens provide many benefits for the population in urban areas. A rational selection of plants in these features can introduce a potential for value-added products including extracts of nutraceuticals. Helichrysum. italicum was grown in the urban environment, on a vertical surface in the form of a green wall. Since the location was in a town with continental climate, particular attention was given to ensure that the minimum humidity of the soil and maximal insolation were achieved. Supercritical CO2 (SCCO2) was used for extraction of phytochemicals. Arzanol content of the obtained extracts was determined by HPLC-DAD using pure arzanol as standard. Cytotoxicity (MTT test) and NF-kB activation (p65 ELISA) were evaluated upon treatment of cells in culture (MCF-7, HeLa, MRC-5) with the SCCO2 extracts. This study demonstrates that H. italicum cultivation in urban conditions in the continental climate yields phytochemical-rich extracts. Obtained plant extracts showed potential anticancer effects when investigated in cell-based assays. Extract concentrations below IC50 concentrations for cytotoxic effects had a significant effect on NF-kB activation that was cell-line specific. HeLa and MCF-7 cells responded differently - suggesting the importance of cell receptors for biological activity. Further analysis of the potential use of extracts should be conducted using animal models. The reported use of Helicrysum italicum in the green healing wall is in line with the UN Development Goals for sustainable cities to improve the urban environment with benefits for the population wellbeing and a potential to obtain value-added bioactive extracts.

The effect of Trichoderma Spp. on physiological parameters of two tomato cultivars grown under greenhouse conditions

AB  - INTRODUCTION:
Fungi that belong to the genus Trichoderma colonize plant rhizosphere and are considered as good candidates for the use
in environmentally friendly agriculture as plant growth promoters and biocontrol agents. In recent years, investigations are
focused on the use of non-destructive characterization of plant responses to different abiotic and biotic stresses.
OBJECTIVES:
Dualex sensor was used in order to pre-screen the reaction of tomato plants treated with different Trichoderma isolates,
based on the previous investigations that imply that the positive effects of this fungi depend on the plant genotype.
METHOD / DESIGN:
The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design under greenhouse conditions with two replicates. In total 30
plants of two tomato cultivars were transplanted in soil, per treatment: NC-control Narvik, GZC- control Gruzanski zlatni,
NT1 - T. harzianum; NT2 - T. brevicompactum; NT3 - T. harzianum + T. brevicompactum; GZT1 - T. harzianum; GZT2 - T. brevicompactum;
GZT3 - T. harzianum + T. brevicompactum). The suspensions of Trichoderma isolates were applied in the root zone
of tomato plants, in the phase of three established leaves per plant. Measurements of chlorophyll (Chl), flavonols (Flav) and
anthocyanins (Ant) content were done in vivo on fully developed leaves of the tomato plants, using Dualex optical sensor
(Force-A, Orsay, France), once per week during 50 days of plant growth. NBI (Nitrogen Balance Index) was calculated as Chl/
Flav ratio.
RESULTS:
Results obtained in this experiment showed that in both cultivars, the content of chlorophyll did not change significantly
after Trichoderma application. However, positive trend for Flav content was observed for the cultivar GZ in the treatment with
T2. In contrast, at the beginning of the experiment, NBI index decreased in GZ as influenced with T1 and T2 treatments, which
could indicate a shift from primary to secondary metabolism in mentioned cultivar. Moreover, it could be noticed that during
plant growth content of anthocyanin decreased in both control and Trichoderma treatment conditions.
CONCLUSIONS:
In conclusion, we can suggest that use of non-destructive measurements with Dualex sensor could serve as starting point
to better understanding of plant responses to Trichoderma presence. Moreover, measurements with Dualex can serve as
a pre-screening method for testing the effect of larger number of Trichoderma isolates and their effect on more different
tomato genotypes.

AB  - Ovo istraživanje sprovedeno je sa ciljem da se ispita uticaj nastiranja na komponente prinosa i prinos krtole
mladog krompira. Ogled je postavljen u tri vegetacione sezone na jednom lokalitetu (Begeč), po split-plot sistemu u pet
ponavljanja. Uticaj malčovanja ispitivan je na sortama krompira Cleopatra i Riviera. Sadnja je obavljena mašinski, jedna
krtola po kućici, na međuredni razmak od 65 cm, a razmak u redu 30 cm. Analizirane su broj krtola po biljci, masa krtola
po biljci (g) i prinos mladog krompira (kg/ha). Analiza varijanse je urađena po split-plot modelu na osnovu prosečnih srednjih
vrednosti. Poređenje srednjih vrednosti urađeno je primenom LSD testa. Visoko značajan efekat tretmana (nastiranja)
utvrđen je za sve tri proučavane osobine. Obe proučavane sorte ostvarile su statistički značajno veći prinos i masu krtola
po biljci pri primeni nastiranja, dok je osobina broj krtola po biljci bila veća na kontrolnoj varijanti, ali razlika između kontrole
i tretmana nije bila statistički značajna. Statistički značajno više vrednosti za sve tri proučavane osobine ustanovljene su
kod sorte Riviera. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata može se zaključiti da primena nastiranja ima pozitivan uticaj na prinos
mladog krompira, što pruža mogućnost za širu primenu ove specifične agrotehničke mere u proizvodnji mladog krompira.
AB  - The effect of mulching on early potato yeald was investigated on two potato varieties, Cleopatra and Riviera.
The experiment was set up in three vegetation seasons at one locality (Begeč), according to the split-plot design with five
replications. Tuber number per plant, tuber weight per plant (g) and the yield (kg/ha) were analyzed. Analysis of variance
was performed according to the split-plot design based on average means. The comparison of mean values was done
using the LSD test. A highly significant effect of treatment was determined for all three studied traits. Both studied cultivars
achieved a significantly higher yield and tuber mass per plant when mulch was applied, while the trait tuber number per
plant was higher in the control variant (bare soil). Statistically significantly higher values for all three studied traits were
found in the Riviera variety. According to results, it can be concluded that the application of mulch has a positive impact on
the yield of early potato, which provides an opportunity for wider application of this specific agricutural measure in the
production of early potatoes

AB  - A detailed examination of the phenolic profile, ascorbic acid content and antioxidant and antimicrobial capacities of extracts and jams of the fruits of two traditionally used Sorbus species, viz., S. domestica and S. intermedia, was carried out in the present study. Use of the LC-MS/MS technique revealed the presence and content of 44 phenolics, the most dominant compounds being amentoflavone in S. domestica and chlorogenic acid in S. intermedia extracts. Jam of both species showed the highest content of ascorbic acid. In comparison with BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) and PG (propyl gallate) antioxidant standards, both Sorbus species exhibited moderate antioxidant action. Some extracts of S. domestica and S. intermedia inhibited the growth of two clinically relevant bacterial strains. The presented results support the belief that Sorbus fruits are food with health-promoting properties.

The liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis resulted in quantification of 14 of the 45 phenolic compounds examined, with ellagic acid as the most dominant. Notable antioxidant activity of all three species was confirmed through several assays. Moderate inhibition of acetylcholinesterase by extracts of all investigated Rosa species was observed. Several extracts of examined Rosa species demonstrated inhibition potency towards production of some monitored eicosanoids in cyclooxygenase-1 and 12-lipoxygenase pathways. Two R. sempervirens extracts exerted cytotoxic activity against HeLa and HT-29 cell lines, but were inactive towards MRC-5 and MCF7. The results support the potential of these rose hips as food with health-promoting properties.

AB  - Cilj ove doktorske disertacije predstavljao je ispitivanje fitohemijskog sastava i biološke aktivnosti vodenih i metanolnih ekstrakata svežih i suvih plodova, kao  i pekmeza  pripremljenog  po tradicionalnoj recepturi od plodova  četiri (od kojih se jedna javlja u dve forme)  samonike  vrsta  roda  Sorbus  L.:  S. aucuparia, S. domestica, S. torminalis  f.  torminalis, S. torminalis  f. semitorminalis  i  S. intermedia Ispitivanje fitohemijskog sastava obuhvatalo je LC-MS/MS analizu  44 odabrana fenolna jedinjenja  i  hinske kiseline (organska  kiselina). Takođe, spektrofotometrijski je  određen  sadržaj  ukupnih fenolnih i flavonoidnih jedinjenja, kao i  sadržaj askorbinske kiseline. Evaluacija biološke aktivnosti obuhvatala je  in vitro  ispitivanja antioksidantne aktivnosti, kao i ispitivanje uticaja ekstrakata odabranih vrsta  roda  Sorbus  na aktivnost enzima acetilholinesteraze, antimikrobni, kao i antiproliferativni potencijal.    Sumiranjem dobijenih rezultata može se zaključiti da sveži i suvi plodovi ispitivanih vrsta  Sorbus,  kao i  pekmezi  predstavljaju  umeren izvor  fenolnih jedinjenja.  Kao najzastupljenije fenolne kiseline izdvojile su se protokatehinska i  ferulna, a među flavonoidima amentoflavon i kvercetin-3-O-glukozid.  Pored toga, hinska kiselina je zabeležena u značajnoj količini u svim analiziranim ekstraktima.     Ekstrakti ispitivanih vrsta pokazali su  umeren  antioksidantni potencijal koji se ogleda u njihovoj sposobnosti neutralizacije nekoliko radikalskih vrsta, redukcionom potencijalu i sposobnosti inhibicije lipidne peroksidacije.  Ispitivanjem uticaja ekstrakata odabranih vrsta  Sorbus  naaktivnost  enzima  acetilholinesteraze  dokazana  je  jedino  umerena aktivnost  ekstrakata vrste  S. aucuparia.  Takođe, ispitivani ekstrakti  vrsta roda  Sorbus  ispoljili su umerenu  antimikrobnu  aktivnost u pogledu inhibicije  rasta Gram pozitivne bakterije,  Staphylococcus aureus, i Gram negativne bakterije,  Escherichia coli.  Vodeni i metanolni ekstrakti svežih i suvih plodova vrste  S. aucuparia  pokazali su umeren i inhibitorni potencijal prema rastu tumorskih (HeLa, MCF7, HT-29), ali i netumorskih ćelijskih linija (MRC-5).  Rezultati dobijeni u ovoj doktorskoj distertaciji  ukazuju na značajan  biopotencijal plodova i pekmeza  ispitivanih vrsta  Sorbus  i ukazuju na njihovu primenu u prehrambenoj industriji u vidu funkcionalne hrane.
AB  - The aim of presented  PhD  thesis was investigation of phytochemical composition and biological activity of water and methanol extracts of fresh and air-dried  fruits, as   well  as  jam,  made according to traditional recipe,  of fruits  of four  (one of them occurs in two forms)  wild growing  Sorbus  L. species:  S. aucuparia, S. domestica, S. torminalis  f. torminalis, S. torminalis f. semitorminalis and S. intermedia. Examination of phytochemical composition included LC-MS/MS analysis of 44 selected phenolic compounds  and  quinic acid (organic acid).  Also, total phenolic and flavonoid contents, as well as  ascorbic acid  content,  were determined spectrophotometrically. Biological activity evaluation of extracts of  Sorbus  species included  in vitro  investigation of antioxidant, anti-acetylcholinesterase, antimicrobial  and cytotoxic activity.    According to obtained results, fresh and air-dried  fruits, as well as jam  present  moderate  source of phenolic compounds. Amongs examined phenolic acids protocatechuic  and ferulic acids were the most abundant, and amongs investigated flavonoids amentoflavone and quercetin-3-O-glucoside wete present in noticeable amount.  Furthermore, high concentration of quinic acid was present in all examined extracts.    Extracts of all examined species showed  moderate   antioxidant activity in terms of radical scavenging ability, reduction potential and inhibition of lipid peroxidation.  Also, investigation of  anti-acetylcholinesterase activity revealed moderate activity only of extracts of S. aucuparia. Furthermore, examinated extracts of Sorbus species showedmoderate antimicrobial activity against Gram–positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, and Gram-negative bacteria,  Escherichia coli.  In addition, water  and methanol  extracts of fresh and air-dried  fruits of  S.aucuparia  showed  inhibitory activity toward  tumor (HeLa, MCF7, HT-29), and also non-tumor (MRC-5) cell lines. Presented results indicate significant  biopotential of examined  fruits of  Sorbus  species  and  support their use in food industry as functional food.

AB  - Leaves and cones of the genus Juniperus, regularly used as a spice, could be a candidate for new food preservative with significant nutraceutical qualities. The main goal of this study was to evaluate the bioactivity and chemical profiling of the Juniperus excelsa leaves and cones in order to support its usage as a health-promoting food additive. The content of 44 phenolics was determined using Liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LS-MS/MS), with catechin and quercitrin being the most dominant, especially in leaves (234 and 142 mg/g of leaves dry weight, respectively). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis showed a simple terpene composition both in leaves and in cones, with -pinene (31 and 77%), cedrol (37 and 8%), and limonene (15 and 6%) as the most abundant compounds, respectively. J. excelsa showed a noteworthy antioxidant effect comparable with butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), especially leaves extract towards HO center dot and lipid peroxidation (LP) inhibition, which is particularly important in food-quality maintenance. Essential oil of leaves showed significant anti-inflammatory activity by means of inhibition of eicosanoids production and considerable antimicrobial activity against the clinically relevant and/or foodborne illness-causing bacteria. Due to its considerable bioactivity and high content of phenolics with proven health benefits, usage of J. excelsa as a food additive with valuable nutraceutical properties should be supported.

AB  - The purpose of this study was a comprehensive examination of the phenolic profile, the vitamin C content, and the antioxidant, anti-acetylcholinesterase, cytotoxic and antimicrobial activities of extracts and jams of fruits of two edible Sorbus species: well characterized S. aucuparia and two insufficiently explored forms of S. torminalis (torminalis and semitorminalis). Characterisation of 44 phenolics was realized using LC-MS/MS and 15 compounds were confirmed, with chlorogenic acid being the most dominant in S. aucuparia and ferulic acid in both S. torminalis forms. S. aucuparia demonstrated potent antioxidant activity, while that of both S. torminalis forms was moderate. Jam extracts had the highest content of vitamin C. S. aucuparia exhibited some anti-acetylcholinesterase activity, while S. torminalis f. torminalis showed the best antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and both forms (torminalis and semitorminalis) possessed the highest activity against Escherichia. coli. The results obtained herein are a great base for further research of edible Sorbus species with the aim of promoting their better usage as nutraceuticals.

AB  - The present study was designed to define the phenolic content, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of Crateagus orientalis Pall. Ex M. Bieb., traditionally used by local people in southern parts of F.Y.R. Macedonia. The presence and content of 7 phenolics in ethanolic extracts of leaves and berries were studied using HPLC-DAD, where the most dominant compounds were hyperoside, isoquercitrin and chlorogenic acid. The leaf extract was more effective as a DPPH radical scavenger (IC50 = 29.7 μg/g) than the berry extract, as well as in the relative reducing power on Fe3+. Anti-inflammatory potential was studied by means of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and 12-lipoxygenase (12-LOX) inhibitory activity; both extracts evinced activity. Furthermore, C. orientalis leaf extract showed a concentration dependent inhibition of COX-1 pathway products 12-HHT and TXB2, reaching IC50 values below the lowest applied concentration (68.9% and 55.2% of 12-HHT and TXB2 production inhibition, respectively, at concentration of 0.4 mg/mL). Although inhibitors such as acetylsalicylic acid and quercetin showed higher activity, this study demonstrates that the investigated extracts are potential anti-inflammatory agents.

Bieb., traditionally used by local people in southern parts of F.Y.R. Macedonia. AB  - The aim of this study was a comprehensive investigation on phenolic profile, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activity of the still insufficiently explored black summer truffles (Tuber aestivum Vittad.) and white (Tuber magnatum Pico) truffles. Methanol and water extracts, obtained by maceration and Soxhlet extraction, were examined. Forty-five phenolics was studied using LC-MS/MS: presence of 14 compounds was confirmed, with the most dominant being p-hydroxybenzoic acid, baicalein and kaempferol (T. aestivum), epicatechin and catechin (T. magnatum). Moderate antioxidant activity of both species was determined through several assays. Only T. magnatum showed anti-inflammatory potential by inhibiting COX-1 and 12-LOX pathway products synthesis. Methanol extracts exerted cytotoxicity against some tumour cell lines (HeLa, MCF7, HT-29), besides the prominent activity of water extracts towards breast adenocarcinoma (MCF7). To conclude, these results support further investigations of phytochemicals and biological activity towards verification of nutraceutical use of both species.
